Potty training help
We got word this morning that Allen got into E.C. Montessori, or as he calls it, "my special school." We're all very excited. He will be in the primary class (3-6 year-olds) starting this Fall.
Now we have to potty train ... please please please send me words of wisdom! I'm desperate!

I think you know how Mom potty trained me. The first time I wet myself, I told Mom this great story about my dolly not wanting to go in the potty. Ask her, she'll give you the details. Not the details about my baby not wanting to use the potty but the details of her method.
I think every kiddo is a bit different in this area, but I'll share some of the things that worked with us. First, get Allen vested and engaged...it has to be something that he wants to do. Maybe a promise of some type of big reward at the end of the process. Then, celebrate every small success, even if it is with something as simple as a few M&Ms for every successful trip to the potty. When you have an accident, don't make a big deal out of it, really downplay it so as not to be discouraging.
For H, we switched to pull-ups first and made a trip to the potty every 30 minutes. Also, when you can, let him got bottomless or only wear big-boy undies. It is a bit more uncomfortable for him wearing big-boy undies and a bit of a deterrent. For just a little bit, we used training pants and the plastic pants over them. Again, these are a real pain and really uncomfortable for him. It might help or it might not be worth it...up to you to decide.
Have him wear cloths that are easy to remove quickly. H's Montessori required elastic waist pants so they were easy up and down.
ALWAYS bring a backup outfit (or two).
For us, #1 was really easy to master, but #2 took several months to get down. Fortunately, H was pretty "scheduled" in this area and it was an issue we could deal with at home.
Oh, and don't worry about night time now. You'll know when he's ready for that and it might still be awhile off. He doesn't need the pressure of staying dry at night time right now.
